You can choose if his partner ditches him for Daisy, but that sounds like an awesome plottwist! But they do have to leave him alone in the competition for some reason.
Maybe he goes out to the hallway after being told from his partner that they're ditching him, and then he hears what Kellin says about needing a singer?
